We have now nearly finished the cladding on the shipping container house/eco-lodge and the 2 large windows at the front also went in yesterday…. The shipping container house is starting to look architecturally impressive!

 

 

 

 

 

 

                                    

 

Installing the freezer panel roof on the shipping container house/eco-lodge

 

Last week we installed the freezer panel roof on the eco-lodge/house - it took about 5 hours but here is a time lapse movie which only takes about a minute to see it all come together!

Cashel Mall

Having a base in Christchurch we feel we can't have a blog about shipping containers and not mention the shipping container mall in Cashel Street! Have you been there yet?  If you are in Christchurch be sure to make a trip to see some shipping containers converted into some great shops.  It seems a shame though that the most prominent containers - on top of the buildings - appear to have no other purpose other than adding architectural flair...they look good though.

Did you know that making malls out of shipping containers is not a new idea? - In the Ukraine and Kyrgyzstan huge markets made out of containers have been in existence for years.

Portable offices

Shipping containers can make create offices for businesses - Portacabins and the like can look run down very quickly.  Badly insulated shipping containers also mean you can get a bad condensation problem on the inside. 

At imaginit we have fully investigated the condensation problem in shipping container conversions so you can be assured that the end product you receive will last the test of time and will not deteriorate. 

One or two (or more!) shipping containers converted into an office can be a great addition to a business as a main office or if you need a branch in a more rural or isolated location or just if you want to make a statement about your business: forward thinking, funky, eco-friendly.....

Our Fifty5 shipping container home

We have started up this blog to share ideas, architecture and designs we like and projects we are undertaking.

As our first post and an introduction to imaginit and its shipping container house concept we thought we would share with you our Fifty5 house.  The idea behind the Fifty5 is to provide affordable housing - we believe that everyone in New Zealand should be able to own their own property - building houses with shipping containers can provide an affordable alternative to conventional building methods - it is also a form of eco housing... not to mention architecturally interesting! 

This is just one of the looks for our Fifty5 home!
